I feel soo stupid Hey y'all. I've been bouncing around different forums since Bon Voyage came out, trying to see if my hacks were compatible. I have noticed something in some of the forums (not here). Sarcasm and scolding for people asking questions! I even spoke up at one and said, "This person asked a legitamite question, something that I too don't understand and would like an answer." My post was ignored. I'm having an issue with Bon Voyage that I'm sure is hack related but can't figure out which hack is causing it. Pescado has posted a DOS tool called "hackdiff" that reads the hacks and tells you if they are incompatible with Bon Voyage. Problem is, I have no clue how to run DOS. Someone asked questions similar to mine, and a moderator posted a nice tutorial, including screenshots, to help. Then, in small text, she types "It makes me weep to have to explain this to people." Well, I am not stupid, I just don't know how to use DOS. But, I'll be hanged before I ask them a stupid question for them to point and laugh! This seems to be the mood in the general community. . . this "I'm smarter than you are" practice of putting down legitimate questions. On the other side of the coin is what's probably the root cause, "PLZ HELP!!!111" kinds of questions. But, we can see those a mile away. What's happened to the community in my absence that it has become so mean-spirited? Sorry for bringing this here. . . this forum has always felt like home for me, and though I don't visit often, I still think of you as friends. I hope you don't mind me visiting to vent.
Have you tried double clicking on it? also are you running xp,vista, please post what operating system you are using. and a moderator posted a nice tutorial, including screenshots, to help. Then, in small text, she types "It makes me weep to have to explain this to people." Can you give us a link to this page?
Kristal, that's awful! But I'm not in the least bit surprised - I've felt for a while now that there is a mean-spirited attitude and an 'I know more than you' kind of approach to people asking questions in the Sims community. It's one reason why I left the official Sims 2 BBS a long time ago. It's also why I feel very comfortable here at WorldSims - the members here are more than happy to help people asking genuine questions. There are the few who ask the 'zomg help plzzzzz!!!1one' type of questions but even then, they get a polite answer to their question. The Sims community has become less welcoming and more 'bragging' in its approach to people needing help. There are those who feel they are justified in their sarcasm or scolding, but really, we're not 3 year olds lol. A little humility and tolerance wouldn't go amiss, and more than that, RESPECT for others. I love it here at WorldSims - the tone of the site is clear, all are welcome and everyone is glad to help if anyone needs it, IF we can help of course. I hope you find an answer to your query. It seems that Bon Voyage has caused a few issues for people. And of course we don't mind that you vented.
That made me laugh out loud, that did. It's so realistic with the 111s. You'd think people could at least delete the ones... But all silly posts like that do is make me laugh. I bare no grudge against them because they often make me chuckle. Nowadays it's hard to find a decent forum. This one is by far the most polite and fun one I've ever found. This forum, the Bioware one and Gibberling3 are probably the nicest forums in the world! (The other two forums have nothing to do with the Sims in case you were wondering.) Welcome back, BTW, Kristal! For the time being anyway . And I'm very sorry that I couldn't be to much help.. I just got so caught up in rambling on about forums and 1s.
Kristal, Older versions of Windows used to let you run DOS but the new "smarter" versions assume you're an idiot, so it's harder to get to. Mirelly, do you know how she can access it? I know if you press a key while your computer is booting up (the computer tells you which to press, shift? enter? something) you get DOS code, but I'm not sure that will achieve the results Kristal wants. Have you tried typing "Get into DOS" on Google? I've found a lot of information that way. Sorry I can't tell you exactly how to get there, but hope this helps. Oh, and as a P.S.: I almost never post to those sites anymore. I like the Laden Swallow and this site. Many of the others are either idiot-filled or rude, I agree. I may chafe at the PG rating on this site occasionally but it does keep the potty mouths out, I'll say that much.
It's a credit to Josh for setting the tone of the site as family friendly/ PG rated, and credit to all the members here for maintaining that tone. It's what makes WorldSims a great site. There is no need for potty mouths or poor netiquette IMO, on ANY website, but especially a site where children of all ages visit. As for more adult rated discussions, well, there are plenty of sims sites that offer that level of discussion and I personally feel that children should be protected from such discussions or language, and by that I'm thinking of one sims site in particular that has a sister site for its adult content, yet even before the person signs up there is a banner containing highly explicit porn at the top of the page. Also, to join that adult site, all you need to do is enter a fake birthday (they can't possibly know if you really are 18 or not) and voila, registered to access a ton of downloads containing highly graphic images and you also have access to an explicit forum. If people need an excuse to a) make that type of custom content and b) look at such images, I'm angry that it has to be based on a game that is played by fans of all ages. Child protection is something that is important to me, and besides that, it's the law too. And I don't mean protection from seeing natural images of the human body, but there is a difference between those sorts of images and the stuff that's on offer at that website, including the very adult discussions that go on. Oopsie. I'm rambling now. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I am glad that it's family friendly here at this site. And it's an example to all those who need lessons in how to communicate respectfully, politely and without the need to resort to using offensive language.
Thanks y'all for letting me vent. I figured out how to open DOS at least--I'm running Windows XP, so I can go to "run" and then type in cmd to get to the command prompt. That's as far as I can get, though. I tried to follow the instructions, but all I generated was one report of everything in my downloads folder, not just hacks; and one empty report. Nothing told me what my issue was, and I gave up. I haven't tried again tonight--I've been watching the movie "We Are Marshall" filmed about and in my hometown of Huntington, WV, and crying my eyes out. LOL Very strange to see places you knew very well as a child, and a college I once attended, brought to life in a movie. Sorry, I got distracted by a bright, shiny object. . . back on topic. Okay, I hope everyone's okay with me posting a link to this site-- http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,9533.50.html You know, I train employees how to use computers. That's my job. Of course, it's just certain Windows-based programs, nothing really complicated or containing any coding. I feel like I can find my way around a comptuer a little better than average. But, things like this, not being able to figure out something makes me feel very incompetent! I fear for this community when I bounce around the forums and read about the drama. So and so fell out and so and so got stabbed in the back and all the other arguments. . . well, people, it's just a computer game! Why can't we all just get along? LOL Life is just too short.
hackdiff needs to be put in a directory and then found in the dos command prompt. So if you put it in c:\ In other words C directory. Then in the command promp you would have to type. in the prompt. C:\hackdiff.exe For it to work. I would put it there and when done move it to another folder where you can find it. Dos needs every instruction to operate programs. HTH
