Incredibl.e Local Authorities. We generally call them local authorities over here - Councils that are in charge of districts and counties. They are responsible for such things as education, police, rubbish clearance, town planning, etc, etc. The County Council is generally responsible for roads. It is illegal to place any kind of sign on a road without the consent of the County Council, as I understand it. Recently our local county council saw some small signs advertising a local event for charity. I think it was local gardens in the village which were open. The County Council had sponsored the event. They were small signs and did not look a bit like road signs. The County Council pulled them all up and took them away. Are there silly local authorities like that in the U.S.A.? I'll bet that there are?
I hold the theory that when you arrive at the office first thing in the morning you put two things on the coat peg. One is your coat and the other is all the commsense and intelligence that you have. You then do your work and at the end of the two you can collect your two articles again.
my theory is that the minute you sit down on your chair at work, all your commonsense and intelligence goes to your tushy
I was speaking of working for a council, or local authority. I had a job once where all I had to do was work - no meetings - no senseless book-keeping (my wife did that!) - just work. It was great until I had far too much of it.
