    it just wont work

hi im new here and have been reading the other posts but nothing has helped me.
ill start of with first with what is happening. i borowed the sims 2 game off a friend to try it out. i had no probs with the installation. the game started up normaly. i could choose the town i wanted to go to. then theload page loads up and thats when i started to get trouble. it just wont let me play the rest of the game. the graphics went all funny.

after updating my nvidia geforce 2 mx 100/200 to 77.72 i tried again and the same thing.
so i uninstalled it and reinstalled it but when i did that i made it worse. now the whole game wont load at all.
it gives me a red x and a button that says 'ok'.
    so i uninstalled it

i brought my own copy now and installed it and it still the same thing. with my cds i had to restart the installation like 3 times cause of a couple of files that didn't wana install.

    1) cpu 1500mhz
    2) ram 512mb
    3) free hard disk space 11.2gb
    4) total hard disk space. 27.9gb
    5) graphic video card nvidia geforce2 mx 100/200
    6) video card driver version 6.14.0010.7772
    7) drectx version 9.0
    8) operating system windows xp professional 5.1 service pack 1
    9) sims 2 cd

i havent even played the game yet and am dieing to play it so if anyone can help.

from experience, the nvidia cards model <440 are old and arent really supported for TS2. upgrade if you can.

Please buy your own copy of The Sims 2. We won't be offering support to those who do not.

He said he did in the original post, Josh. :p

Okay, Salz, I know what it says on the box. But trust us, if you have a GeForce graphics card less than 440, you will have problems. Shoot, I tried for months to play it with a 440, and it gave me fits and wouldn't play the "special events" camera, the graphics were a little fuzzy because it "blended" out the details, it moved slower than I-don't-know-what, it just wasn't worth it. Upgrading to a higher model grapchics card will do wonders for your game, as well as things like internet site loading times.

You also might want to upgrade Windows XP to service pack 2. Not sure if it will help, but it might. Also, what kind of processor do you have? Intel, Athlon? Are you disabling all your other programs INCLUDING background programs like Anti-Virus Software, because that will also mess with things.

Yeah, I would sort of throw in a much better video card, though from the looks of your entire computer set up, if you have an extra 600-800 dollars lying around (or 1200 for the visual conscious people who want to make Alienware cases look like dirt), I'd either overhaul or just build a new computer from scratch. From the looks of things, I'd only go as far as upgrading to the Geforce 5 series (though you haven't exactly stated whether you're running an Intel or AMD processor, as the 2 Ghz AMD is pretty much equal to the Intel 3 Ghz)

And minimum specs stated on the box or by the Devs are pretty funny. In games such as Rome Total War, the minimum specs are more than enough to play the game on medium settings. Games like Sims 2 and Halo...You've got barebones gaming without the security of a stable framerate.

I have only one thing to add to the above advice (you absolutely do need a new AGP card :p ) ... make sure to get a card with the maximum amount of memory.

Maxis originally said in their sys reqs regarding video display/graphics cards memory: "the more memory the better". I believe that in the absence of super-duper cpu performance (and I mean state of the art, hot out of the Intel or AMD labs) you are better off with a less hot graphics card with 256MB over a slightly hotter one with 128MB if both cost the same +/- a few bucks. (The point is that all that memory is there to "cushion" the video processor so that it won't slow you down when scroll around the screen. Bear in mind the game isn't storing fixed images. It has to make the screen up for you the whole time because it can't possible anticipate the angle you are gonna choose to want to view Mortimer Goth's death scene.

well first id like to thank ManagerJosh for blocking my post without reading the whole thing. lol
i couldnt tell u all earlier that i had a 30g hard drive and that has been giving us trouble. so i went out and brought a 160g hard drive and also brought a new video card. i brought a sapphire radeon 9250 256mb all up i spent about $210 australian.
it worked fine i could play the game then i notice the graphics started to make lines on the sims and anything that would move. if i changed my desktop to 1024x768 then it would work good .
im using a pentium 4 processor.
so problem solved thanx for trying to help.
