Positive Software has released a major upgrade of the H-Sphere control panel software used on our shared hosting systems. Version 2.5 introduces many enhancements and feature upgrades, as well as security and bug fixes. After some evaluation, we have determined that we are satisfied that the new version is ready for production use. We will bring H-Sphere to version 2.5 and then up to Patch 3, which is the current release.

The update features the following signification changes to our servers' configurations:

    - PHP 5.0.x will be deployed to all web servers. We will endeavor to provide all existing PHP features we had added under the updated configuration to ensure a smooth transition. You are encouraged to contact support if you run into any complications to this end.
    - MySQL will be upgraded from version 4.0 to 4.1 introducing support for various ehancements to MySQL databases.
    - All supporting software on all servers will be upgraded to newer versions containing bug and security fixes.

The updates will be applied on Saturday, August 5th at 2 AM Central Time. All servers will experience outages during the upgrade process as packages are upgraded to the latest versions. The control panel is expected to be down for up to an hour as it must remain disabled during the installation of all update packages. The mail and MySQL servers are expected to be out of service for no more than 15 minutes each. Web servers downtimes should be limited to less than 30 minutes of complete outage, however PHP complications may require up to an additional hour to resolve, possibly resulting in the inability to utilize PHP functionality properly during this time.

Some of the servers may be rebooted after the upgrade process in order to activate new kernel packages containing important security upgrades. These downtimes should be minimal.

We cannot be responsible for scripts that do not function under PHP 5 and will recommend that you look to upgrade your scripts in advance if you are aware of any such limitations. If you have concerns about this, please contact the publishers of the scripts on your site.</div>
