Well, ironically folks, it feels like Deja Vu all over again, except it is an expansion pack named "Sims 2 University" Very Ironic, if you ask me. Anyhow, we managed to get a copy of the press release (Thanks to Robert from SimsZone.de for contacting us). The official press release will published tommorow. I was hoping for pets though lol but sounds cool since we're able to follow them to school. I hope there will be more cooler expansions in future especially the pets expansion
Maxis had said in chats last year that the pets would definitely not be in the first EP. I suspect that's because they have to deal with more AI and animation details for the pets. (Like maybe having a life cycle thing for them. However, since I just a week ago lost my 9 year old Abbyssinian Ramses to lymphoma, I'm not sure I like the idea of a life cycle for animals. Too raw for me right now.) I am looking forward to having pets again. I really enjoyed Unleashed even though I hadn't expected to. (Especially after they came up with the No Stray sign so there weren't animals leaving stuff on my Sim's lawns!)
I'm looking at this EP with mixed feelings. On one side: woohoo, extra stuff! A new phase in life, hopefully many extra objects that have other effects than just plainly decorative. However, on the other side: "University", like in some American movies, with fraternities and dorms and all that, um, well, that's not how it works in my (and many other players) part of the world! Or will there be a European version of the EP? I think not. Anyway, we'll see I guess...
I for one am not entirely thrilled about college life but hey it still seems like fun. there were other things id been hoping theyd do first but theres still next time and I also just really want the extra things in the game lol
I also really wanted the first expansion to be pets but I can understand why its not...the whole thing will take a long time to make...but hopefully we will get pets in the future...and not just dogs and cats...livestock would be awesome...horses mainly...thanx.
why are the men in the first screenshot wearing togas?? is that some kind of dorm life secret? fraternities?? i'm sorry, i'm a girl in middle school, so...??
im syked about this new game and i cant wait for it to come out. i never thought that they would come out with something like going to school with them but i did wish i could like build schools in the sims 2 but then i thot it would be kinda wierd lol well i happy. when is it coming out ??
Ahhhhh, I have son in middle school Way back in the 70's there was a movie called "Animal House" about a fraternity. They had parties where they dressed in togas and got drunk and danced around the house.
If i aint had no sleep already from making babies and going to work in the sim's 2 it would be great to see some more added features , i was asked to go to the sims discussion in redwood city since i live next door to san francisco and but i had to work the game is great if you have the right set up tuned in to run this fun doll house of sim's , I found myself so busy on the weekends playing , Heck i heard the chickens roosting lol' and the old sims i barly play it and i got all of them ..the new exspansion will be a great edition heck be nice if we had cars and dj's in this to ..cant wait member !!!:bunny:
Wouldn't it be unbelivably cool if we could play the Sims but instead of being modelled on American life, it was modelled on Cambodian or Mongolian or Siberian or Argentinian life?! While I love the Sims and while I appreciate the comparative versitility of the game, the strongly American way of life of Sims is a little limiting. I know games modelled on life in other countries (or ages!) would be less popular, but they'd be extremely fun.
I agree Zooty. Many of us from outside the US may well know about the peculiar idiosyncrasies of American campus life with its freshmen and valedictorians, the wholly sinister business of the "Greek" thing with pledges and rings and slightly dodgy initiation rites and not forgetting spring break. But I doubt that few of us actually understand the mechanics and subtlety of it all. I'm sitting here imagining trying to explain the British college tradition of rag weeks ... it would take too long. And imagine going to a university where there isn't a student union bar ... preferably one with a floor that is permanently damp with beer sloppings. Sadly. These days students have credit cards and iBooks and iPods and wear Gap and Nike and drink Californian chablis and then moan like crazy when they graduate cos they have such a huge debt.
At the same time, you do have to understand, the game is made by Americans, and is, essentially, an American product. Whenever you purchase a foreign product, you are, essentially, accepting that the cultural idiosyncracies of the foreigners who made the game are going to be more or less inescapable. If you're looking for games modelled on foreign cultures, you probably should buy games from those countries instead of American games. After all, it's sort of unfair to complain if a game made by Germans is essentially steeped in German culture, so why should you complain if a game made by Americans is predominantly American in cultural perspective?
Ah the nationalist perspective. The massive development costs of games like the sims would be economically viable even if the product was only to be sold in the US. Not as profitable, but viable. The same would not be true for lesser sized nations. My complaint -- if my feelings can justifiably be called one -- is more to do with the generalised cultural imperialism of wider america. That phenomenon is a two way street with the media shaping the prejudices and traditions and vice versa. It is not, in my opinion, a bad thing, though it does lead to a dumbing down if not an actual reduction in intellectual curiosity.
