Monitor making buzzing sound I just upgraded from an Integrated Intel video card to an ATI Radeon 9200se (AGP) on my HP, and among other problems such as flashing back and forth to a black screen on startup and running dxdiag, my monitor has been making this really annoying high-pitched buzzing sound whenever the graphics change on the screen. ie: when I use the scrollbar, when I minimize/maximize a window, even when I view a simple animated image, I will hear this buzzing sound. I upgraded in order to play The Sims 2, but whenever I play it the buzzing sound goes CRAZY and I can barely play the game it's so annoying. The noise is coming from the monitor itself, not the speakers, because I hear it no matter where the volume is at. I disabled the video card for a bit to try installing new drivers (the drivers are listed as Radeon 9250 now, I don't know if that's a problem or not since this is a 9200se), and when I wasn't using the Radeon, I didn't hear the noise, so I know this has something to do with the new video card. My refresh rate is set at 60 hertz. Does anyone have any idea what I could do to fix this? Is it possible my monitor (HP Pavilion mx70) can't handle the video card? And if this can't be fixed, I'll have to go back to my old card, because the noise and the flashing black screens are just too irritating Does anyone know exactly how to do that? Would I just plug the monitor back into the integrated card, and then Windows will reinstall the drivers for it itself? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
It might be that your monitor is nearing the end of its life. Try plugging in another monitor. If the buzzing stops, then it's time to get a new monitoto replace the other. Of coarse, it might not be this, but definately try plugging in another monitor, just to be sure. Copter.
is your monitor a CRT (big, heavy, bulky) or LCD (slim, lightweight)? CRT's normally make a high-pitched buzzing sound, but it's barely audible and does it all the time, not just when changing graphics. I have an LCD monitor and it makes a high-pitched buzzing noise only when it is searching for a display resolution (usually when my computer starts up) but doesn't make any noise after that. the first thing I would try is getting the correct drivers (http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html). also make sure you change the setting in your BIOS which determines if your integrated graphics chipset is active (obviously you want to disable the integrated graphics since you have a dedicated card). if you are not sure how to do this consult your system manual or get a professional or trusted friend to walk you through it. if that doesn't work, i'd recommend taking the radeon card out and plugging the monitor back into the integrated video port, because you said the monitor started making the sound when you changed its source. if it stops making the noise, it could be the radeon card. also try what copter said and try a different monitor on both integrated video and the graphics card.
