Moving the letterbox & garbage bin? I want to design a house that has a garage on the ground floor, but in order to create the design I want I have to move the garbage bin & letter box out of the way. When I do this it won't allow me to place them next to the road. My question is....will they still work if I move them to a different location on the lot? Obviously when it comes down to it I can always just delete the lot and start again, if the answer's no. So it's no big deal but I was just curious (and not able to find out myself right at the moment) if anyone else has tried this and they've worked or am I going to be disappointed and have to find a different design? LOL Cass.

This may explain why when I converted a residential lot to a community lot I couldn't place the telephone booth on the grass strip next to the road. Since I've only visited the lot once more with sims who drove their own car I didn't test the phone to see if it worked. So now I'm curious about it.
Good news! I just got a chance to test the lot and it WORKED! The mailman delivered bills and my sim was able to retrieve and 'pay' them as normal. She was also able to use the garbage bin. Phew! I'm so relieved and excited...now I can go ahead and try building some of the more unusual houses I wanted. Here's a picture to show the positioning of the letterbox and bin. Those pine trees to the right of the image are right at the edge of the lot and the original position of the bin and letter box was in the centre of the two driveways. **jumps around** I'm so happy it worked! My two cents...I've moved the mailbox/trash can on almost every house. I even put the mailbox right next to the house on one of them, wanted a cute little cottage look. Everything still works the same, but if you move the mailbox up next to the house, sims no longer jog by on the sidewalk, they jog through your yard instead! Lol, so it seems like the mailbox only messes up the walk/jog bys if you move it, but nothing else.
Yup carpool and taxi work fine. I don't know about the bus because she doesn't have kids, but I imagine it would work too. lol Jupitershana...The joggers are some how 'attached' to the letterbox, huh? Hehehe I'll have to try moving the letterbox further back on the lot so I can see that. Cass.
To me it makes more sense to have the mailbox on the house side of the sidewalk anyway. It'd be one thing if the mail carriers drove, but they don't, they walk... so we're going to force them to walk out into the street? Brilliant, Maxis, just brilliant.
I drove through a mail carrier once. He was leaving the property and was in the driveway when my sim came home. The car went right through him. Apparently mail carriers are also superheroes.

When I've moved the garbage can and mailbox, it has occasionally blocked the spot for off loading students. They get on the bus fine, but can't get off until I moved it out of the way. But that was before they changed the "move object" thing with OFB. (Grrrr. I liked putting my street lights on the parking strip instead of having them in the actual yard.)
