New Sims 3 Tutorial - How to add another harddrive

Whew…Only two more tutorials to go and Simmers should be educated on how to upgrade their machines for TS3!* I just finished the “How to add another harddrive” tutorial for those who are running out of space.* It’s not hard to follow - for those that want a challenge, I wrote a small guide on how to add an internal IDE/SATA harddrive to their machines, and for those who are afraid to break into their cases, a very short guide for external harddrive use.

Hope this will be of help to someone!

Ya know you should probably go into more detail on SATAs. There's eSATAs (external SATA), as well as variations of SATA like the SATA 1.5 and the SATA 3.0

swmeek I got your benevolent dictator pal!!

I wouldn't recommend using an external hard drive to install the game on considering the speed of the data going between the two.
It would be ok to store anything like backup data or any downloads one might get to save them away in case of internal hard drive failure (like I had but didn't have all my stuff backed up)
Aren't those two forms of SATA backwards compatible anyways?

SATA 1.5 and SATA 3.0 are backwards compatible...to a certain extent.

SATA 1.5 Drives will work on both SATA 1.5 and SATA 3.0 Controllers.

SATA 3.0 Drives will work on SATA 3.0 controllers with no problem, however there is a little jumper on the back that caps the speeds. If you don't remove it, it will limit your SATA 3.0 drives to only 1.5 speeds.

Also, newer SATA 3.0 drives sometimes may not work with the older SATA 1.5 controllers. This very same jumper setting allows you to force the drive into SATA 1.5 mode to allow it compatibility with older controllers.

Don't forget to mention when things won't work the way you like them to a 5lb sledge hammer works wonders!! :rotfl: :ducks:
