No downloads folder, boolprop doesnt work, what should I do?? I know boolprop works on macs as a cheat for the sims, and I KNOW for sure there should be a downloads folder. See, I had the sims 2 installed, then it got super buggy, so I uninstalled it, but I closed my laptop and it went into sleepmode while uninstalling (is this the problem??) then when I opened it back up it seemed fine, until later I noticed those two things wrong with it. What should I do??
Yes - putting your Mac to sleep in the middle of an uninstallation could cause problems...Never recommended! You may need to un-install and then reinstall again. No Downloads folder...Did you have one before? Did you back it up somewhere other than the original location? Before un-installing and re-installing, yolu always want to back-up your downloads folder, either to the desktop or an external drive or CD. Infact, I recommend backing-up the entire Sims 2 folder found in your Documents on the Mac! That way, you have the neighborhoods you've created backed up as well! If you can't find the downloads folder, try a Spotlight search. Can't help you with Boolprop. I've never used it - too easy to mess things up in your game...
Thanks I'll have to do that..and yes I did have a download folder before but when I reinstalled the sims 2 it didnt have it! Thanks for the help.
"Boolprop" doesn't mess up your game. The testing cheats are invaluable for debugging game play situations and for unsticking frozen situations. However some in-game errors will cause an effective lock up cycle (ie: the game error generates a error dialog with the three options: Cancel/Reset/Delete) where cancel and reset both produce the same error (and the annoting reappearance of the error dialog and the same 3 buttons ... you can continue this game for ever cos the puter won't care). The only way out is to use the delete button (will permanently remove the offending item from the house (you'll have to buy another or reload the game if the "item" was a live sim ... it's dadrattedly annoying if the item is an "irreplaceable" item such as a college diploma or painting of a long dead sim. The safest way out of such a error loop is to exit the game without saving and revue the error logs to see what the debug mode had to say about the error before restarting. Most people who use the debug (boolprop) mode do so only for the cheating aspect. This is a sure fire way to build up errors and create the situation known as a BFBVFS. If you want to cheat and don't want to risk leaving monkey-wrenches in the works cos you're a total klutz then the safest way is to use the excellent cheat objects and hacks designed to do only what they advertise. I don't know if these things work on the Mac - see what the geeks over at MATY have to say ... but don't expect them to be polite ... they are sometimes to apt to poke fun
Thanks for the clarification, Mirelly! Boolprop still sounds scary to me, so I'll stick with the Cheat objects which, thankfully, DO seem to work on a Mac. I have used Merola's wonderful painting as well as the Mind Control mirror quite successfully on my PowerBook.
