Orlando, the friendly sim So I added Orlando Centowski to my cast of characters, and sent him off to college. So far, he's managed to make two new friends with no help from me whatsoever. There's a girl in his dorm who apparently hasn't noticed he's engaged to my sim, and who keeps following him around. I did nothing to encourage her (honest! he says to his fiance ) and yet they're practically best friends. Also, this guy whom I've never interacted with before keeps calling Orlando on the phone, and from those phone calls alone he's become a friend as well. I don't think he knew either of them ahead of time. Wondering if this a new thing with NL. Not that I'm complaining. Sure makes his daily quota easy!
I've noticed that with NL, sims with freewill will get away with positive interactions with strangers a lot more. I've even seen my sims give and recieve friendly hugs from strangers, which would've gotten them at least poked if it had been my idea. I say Orlando's a keeper. Make sure he gets married to a career sim who needs a lot of friends. Set him loose (on free will) in the middle of a sports party and see how he works a crowd! As for the phone calls from strangers, there are a lot of possibilities. He could be a prof that Orlando met in class or maybe a contact that you turned down for an outing yet who kept calling to chat. Or NL may have changed the telephone rules a bit, much in the same way that Uni allowed outgoing sims to just use your lot like they live there without being greated first.
Well, Orlando's already taken. He and his honey both want to be Captain Hero. Does that count as a career sim? I was pleasantly surprised to find out how nice he is. They're a good match. The guy who keeps calling is just another student, and I'm pretty sure I've never interacted with him before, so I have to conclude he saw Orlando's picture in the directory and decided to call. Orlando is a keeper, all right, and makes friends very easily, even though he's a bit on the shy side.
Is Orlando the teen kid with the short high-top sort of hair cut? He's a good catch? Yeah I have NL and I've noticed that my sims that I have not played in a while will autonomously make friends with others, even to the point of best friends without any direction from me at all. I don't have Univ but I've experienced sims walking into my house univited.
I think my CAS, Reeve, met him once as a teen. Reeve has since moved on to Uni and is about to graduate. Orlando has called Reeve's home almost every day that I've played that house with Reeve away at Uni. Reeve's parents and/or siblings always say he's not home in what seems a not so nice way, yet Orlando continues to call. Since you say he's a catch, maybe I'll have Reeve's little sis, Kailani, greet him the next time he walks past. She's a popularity sim and could use him later.
I'm not sure if personalities vary from game to game, but "my" Orlando is certainly very nice. I hate the haircut, though, and gave him a softer look in my game once he went to college (see my story thread). He's a family sim. I like that he's not perfectly handsome, either, though I like his looks, now that he doesn't have the crew cut. He looks good with glasses. Offsets his huge honker a bit. (Yes, PlayLives, that's him, though Randy London also has a crewcut. Orlando's the one in the green shirt, Randy's the one in the blue shirt.) Andrea Hogan, on the other hand, is very pretty, especially with a different haircut, but she's a big ole grouch. She's a money sim. She and Sheldon Handby make a good pair. I married them off to each other in Belleville, and their favorite thing to do was prank people who walked by their house. They were both money sims, and got along perfectly. Again, your results may vary.
