    phpBB 2.0.11 Upgrade Reminder

<div style="color: #000080; padding: 2px;">phpBB 2.0.11 Upgrade Reminder</div><div style="font-size: .9em; margin-bottom: 12px; border-bottom: 1px solid #000080; padding: 2px; border-top: 1px solid #000080;">Tuesday, December 7, 2004 by Kevin Stange</div><div style="font-size: 1em;">As phpBB's project admins have themselves been quite insistent, it is vital that all members apply an upgrade to phpBB 2.0.11 as soon as they possibly can. Not doing so provides a fairly open avenue for unkind people to deface your site, deface other sites, and interfere with server operations. Please see the this post for directions on this procedure.

Due to the urgent nature of these flaws, if I do discover any board that is not upgraded and is being exploited I will apply the upgrade myself immediately. If I do not, the board will continue to be exploited every few hours until the holes are closed. If you were using any mods or special configuration of your board, it is possible that I will break it. By upgrading your own board immediately, you can ensure that the upgrade preserves all your customizations and that I do not break it trying to close the holes.

If you do discover that your forum has been upgraded unexpectedly and you have lost the ability to use your mods, we can provide you with a recent (24-48 hour) backup of those replaced files, so you can recover the modifications you may have installed. Please contact me if you would like to request such a backup.

Additionally, if you are using any version of CuteNews, including the latest release, but you installed it prior to October 23rd, please redownload and install the 1.3.6 version. CuteNews has an exploit that can cause similar problems to the phpBB exploit.</div>
