question concerning A LOT of files in the downloads folder

not really a how to question... but i have around 400 downloaded stuff in my downloads folder for the sims.... and im about to add another 300 files soon. i was wondering if there is such a thing as having too many files? will it slow the game down??? also... im recently got the 2 expansion packs... do u guys think the files will still work with both expansions installed? thanks!:)

    Hi, Denver

Mirelly's explained very clearly how to install expansion packs and and what to do with downloads in this thread http://forums.worldsims.net/showthread.php?t=4633 . Mainly, as far as downloads go, you add them back a few at a time to make sure they work. But please read Mirelly's thread for the details. It's VERY important.

As for a limit on downloads, I suspect that depends on what your computer can handle. It's not a question I'm qualified to answer so maybe someone else around here will help.

If you are talking about downloads which were from before TS2U, then many will probably not work. There wasn't nearly as much difficulty with the ones which worked with TS2/TS2U when going on to Nightlife. But as was said already, it's a good idea to check them as Mirelly explains.

As to adding new downloads. I have tons of downloads. But I have a very good computer and I still get frustrated with load times especially. The more downloads, the longer the load times. It's not much of a problem when you're just playing the game (on a lot) except when you are going from the neighborhood into a lot or from a lot to a community or the neighborhood). However, anytime you want to do something that requires a download for something like changing appearance or for clothes shopping on a community lot, it will slow it down a lot if you have a lot of downloads. (It improved a bit with Nightlife.)

Ahhh, what's 600 files. I checked my download folder last night and I have over 3,000.

Plus, I think that it's the quality of files that add to slowdowns and lags. If they are tiny files, like custom eyebrows, then it won't affect your game as much as a custom skintone or hairstyle with a new mesh to go with it. And some of the big mods that change the programing of the game will also affect your loadtimes and cause some dragginess during gameplay. (I can think of one off the top of my head that I absolutely love, but I do notice a big slowdown when I'm using it, plus I cheat waaayyyyy too much when it's on the lot!)

I'm afraid to even *look* at how many downloads I have in that file. I know it's 2.61 gb and that the majority of the downloads are fairly small. (I do have some hair and skin files, which tend to be biggies, but even those are not usually bigger than 700mb.)

So, I'm in the process of building a "faster" computer. (I'm giving mine to my hubby for Christmas. He doesn't realize it, but he's getting CivIV and Age of Empires III Collector's Edition for his birthday the following week. They appear to require a T&L video card, which his current computer doesn't have. It only has 2.0ghz P4 processor and an Intel 82845G/GL onboard video. It's my old one which I had pre-TS2.)

He knows about the computer because I told him that since he doesn't usually give me a Christmas present without a lot of help from me, he's giving me a new computer. Sneaky Kat!)

But without the new things coming, I'd have to be seriously curtailing my download acquisitions. (As it is I go through them fairly regularly to remove any that I'm not fond enough to use anyway.)
