Shadows Over Simtown I have three chapters done for my movie Shadows Over Simtown. It's a B&W nod to the ol' Charlie Chan and Sam Spade movies. My web page is in a rather primitive condition at the moment, being brand new. The chapters are a little over 20 megs each. There will be about three more chapters and they're tough ones--a corrupt politician, a trial, crowd scenes . The site is www.pharaohfarrow.com.
Help, please, wise computer people? Now I'm bummed. The movie is an .avi that plays OK on my own Windows Media Player. The compression is Indeo video 5, 320 by 240 pixels, 63 kbps, 23 frames/second. The files are a little large. Chapters 1, 2 and 3 are 23, 25 and 20 megs in size. The Credits file is only 3.6 megs. I've had the same problem a lot with movies on the Sims2 BBS. Since I'd always get a message about Quicktime problems, I just assumed it was because the movies were Quicktime format and I didn't have the right version. I'd hear music and voices, no picture. Can you believe it? I finally get someone to watch my movie and (bleep) happens.
OK, Kristalrose, I just had a talk with my son who suggested that my movie compression format (codec, he called it) was not recognized by your windows or quicktime movie players. He said that if I buy a Quicktime version 7 compression software which is due out in a couple of weeks, I should be able to upload in a format that people can watch if they download the Quicktime version 7 player (which should be free off the web.) Anyway, he said that this problem happens a lot--incompatible codecs. Your system didn't recognize my Indeo video 5 compression of the movie. So it's back to the drawing boards.:(
I watched it Lynet. Eventually LOL I had to download some extra stuff tho. Can I ask why you don't just use the free Windows Movie maker that comes with Windows XP? I didn't see any video FX that Windopws movie maker couldn't do ... Oh yeah, your movie. I thought it was well produced/directed and some nice cinematography. Being honest though the plot is a little difficult to fathom ... but maybe I just a bit dumb. Keep the faith though. You obviously have a talent and practise makes perfect.
Thank you, thank you. Yes, I know the plot is obscure, but I hope to let the later chapters clear matters up. They're all planned out in my head. Just have to get them filmed. I've built the town hall and court house for Chapters 4 and 5. Production has slowed down largely because both football season and tax season are over. These two seasons kept my angel of a husband so preoccupied that he didn't mind where I spent all my time which was in front of my computer. Now he's eager for yard work and summer travelling and, well, his wife, so the next chapters of Shadows Over Simtown will be slow in coming. By the way, there are some tricks in my movie that couldn't be done with the windows movie maker on my computer. But I'm going to try out a different compression format anyway.
I just watched all 3 chapters with no problem. Didn't have to download anything. I seriously recommend everyone plays these in QuickTime, not Windows Media Player! Otherwise you will be hassled into downloading all sorts of codecs. I must say they are absolutely brilliant. Wish I could do something like that!!
Incredible! Two thumbs up and all that jazz. I downloaded them to view them on my player and WOW! Amazing! Can't wait to see the rest!:eyepopping: :hissyfit: :hissyfit:
Mulege, please do with them whatever you want. I did those movie chapters before: 1) any of the expansions came out, 2) before I got into downloads big time (with improved skintones, eyes, etc.), and 3) before I started writing stories here at Worldsims using still pictures instead of movies. I'd sure like to finish the story someday, but it will probably be when my son, who helped alot, returns from Amsterdam.
they where awsome and with Alittle editing I have combined all four chapters pulss the credits at the begining I left It open so when you upload all the other chapters plus the ending credits if you have any ill compleat the chapters as a movie and send you a copie as a token of apreciation of you're work.
Goodness gracious, Mulege. That's very nice. I still have that neighborhood and all of those sims standing quietly around (standing because I've installed several EPs since then.) I used the Duke Sidewalker character in a couple of my stories here. The latest was The Dagmar Diaries.
