simsPE what is simPE because im trying to follow this tutorial and it says you need to open it to carry on. is it something i can download of the interne? please help
thanks for the help but i still dont know what it is that just talks about it and i cant understand it if i dont know what it is
That link is just to the website, what is the actual tutorial for? clothes, hair, recolouring objects, meshing? simPE is a package editor, so it will be one of the programs you need to do all of the things I just mentioned plus a lot more. If its just recoloring hair or clothes you want to do then you won't need this program. It helps to know what it is you're trying to do.
Krazzy, if I remember correctly you are wanting to make new hair for your sims. Now there are two sorts of new hair. The "easy" kind is the recolor of an existing style ... I say "easy" because there are a lot of complex patterns that need to be edited, for every age group from toddler thru to elder. Of course you can just edit the age you want but you'll still have a fair bit of work (and testing) to get it just right. The tougher proposition is to make completly new style by first making a MESH - a 3D shape using a modelling software package. this then needs to be coloured (for every age group), and finally it needs to be packaged up using a program like SimPE so that the package can be used by the game. Other factors to consider are making repalcements for the game's default hair colours, binning new hair styles so that they appear as choices for the main hair colours (black, brown, red, blonde) as opposed to all custom hair meshes and recolours being automatically set as custom colours. To work at all SimPE requires a large downloaded Windows patch (the Microsoft .NET framework) under which SimPE runs. You also need a fairly decent image handling software suite, such as Paint Shop Pro (Corel), or GIMP (a free GNU resource). 3D modelling suites include Milkshape ($25) or Wings (free). Other stuff is also needed and all these programs have to be learned. We cannot teach you this stuff. We can only point you in the right direction. It is up to you to poke around, reading everything and following links to the resources mentioned and reading up on those as well. You need to make lists with a pen on paper so that you can keep a tally of what you need ... if the list gets too long and scary the job might be beyond your present abilities. I recently took up mesh making ... partly to find out how difficult it actually is. The answer is that it is not hugely difficult ... it's not rocket science, let's put it that way. But it is enormously fiddly. The tiniest error on a mesh may not be apparent until you have loaded it into a game ... then it looks like a giant hole and you swear at the computer and at yourself because you can't imagine why you didn't notice it before. Exit game, reload SimPE, Milkshape, UVMapper, Paint Shop and redo from start. I did these last week-end (or was it the weekend before? Please look at them anyway, because it'll help you appreciate where I am coming from!) It was my first attempt at making a new mesh. Actaully, the table as shown was my 6th attempt, the chair shown is the 4th attempt (it needs more refinements if it is ever going to have more than one seat colour) The tutorial I followed had almost 100 separate steps (where "make the mesh is one step" and "make the texture image" is another). I would not even dream of doing a hair mesh until I have mastered more complex meshes than what is involved in making a table or a chair. For example, most hair has some movement ... that means you need to think about animation ... Am I trying to put you off? No. If you're serious about learning this stuff, you will get there, but you'll learned little unless you develop a little confidence to just dive in and read through the stuff. Also if you need help the only way you will get the help that you need is if you take the time to compose a detailed description of what, EXACTLY, you wish to achieve. For example, if, say, you wanted to make a hair that had long floppy bangs and a curled under, jaw length page boy bob because you have searched and searched and can't find exactly what you're looking for and you have decided that the only you way you'll get what you want is to do it yourself. Well ... if that was the case you would need to say so in your post asking for help. Its' no use just asking for help with hair. We ain't mind readers here, kid.
