Snow Day! We just got hit with a snowstorm! Yeah! We've had such mild winters lately I forgot how much fun it is to have to stay home because of the snow. So here we are, all snuggled in together. My daughter's school is delayed two hours but unless they plow she's not going at all. We have a tiny little car and it can't handle huge amounts of snow. It just keeps coming down! Wheeeeeee!!!!
Lucky you! Wish we'd gotten a blizzard, although it would probably have knocked out the power as well. It's going to be around 80 degrees here today. Nice but I'll have to spend it in a windowless office. :(
ARG!!! It took me an hour to drive my 20 minute drive to work today...and then of all places, my car got stuck in the parking lot. We still have to work, no snow days for companies...which in my opinion is ridiculous. *sigh* my car is still stuck, and will be for a while.
Apparently, you have not had to go out and shovel yet...You might not be as thrilled! It took me over TWO hours to shovel this morning (The snowblower quit after about two feet!) It usually only takes about half an hour to finish shovelling. And it's still coming down, so I will have to go out again after work. Still, it IS really pretty. The trees and bushes look like they've been frosted. Maybe I'll post pictures later...
How can it be 80 degrees in March? That's just weird. And you're right, Sacha, I haven't had to shovel yet ... I'm going to enjoy this while I can though. Hope you get home OK, Shana. I called in snowed in and let my daughter stay home today too even though there's school. Sorry you two couldn't do the same.
Actually it's kind of funny. The snow it up to the middle of my door now because of all the blowing...eh, I have progressive auto for insurance and have the towing option on my policy. I can just call a tow truck later to pull me out if need be. It looks like I'm not going to be the only one stuck in the parking lot though...it's bad out there!
Yes it is, for Maryland. I haven't worn a coat outside since last Thursday. It's been in the 70's. Oh, well. I should be careful what I wish for.
Actually, I had brought some work home over the weekend, so because I had the files here, I was able to call in and work from home today...And it has been really nice to sit here in my own home, listening to the wind howling outside, and work without having to get all bundled up to face the uncertainty of public transportation! Plus, of course, being able to take the occasional coffee break and check the World Sims forums! And Shana, glad to here you have the option of a tow truck...This is why I have AAA - When you need the help, it's worth every penny of the annual fee!
I GOT OUT! I grabbed a shovel and spent my lunch break shoveling around the front tires of my car, hit the gas and 10 seconds later I finally got out of the snow. Oy...am I ever tired now though...that's hard work!
It's been snowing here in England - last week especially (Friday night. Fantastic snowball fight.) It snowed most of that weekend, but then turned to ice on the Saturady, so it wasn't that great. It's been snowing on and off all week since, never sticking though. It did for a while on Sunday, but it rained afterwards. I was pretty glad it did actually - I could see from inside it was mainly ice, which ain't always good.
Glad you got out Shana - What a day! We haven't had snow like this in a LONG time!! Besides all the cars in the ditch, I heard on the news that 125 busses also got stuck! And of course today was the day the snowblower quit! Two hours of shovelling this morning, and another three hours this afternoon! I can hardly move!!! It IS pretty, though. Last night my daughter and I walked to the restaurant rather than drive. It was a winter fairyland! So beautiful. I live on a street where no cars are allowed. It's really a sidewalk with an avenue of trees down the middle, and when it snows it's breathtaking. And no, I didn't take pictures. I'm really bad at that. I'm a spoiled brat. My husband does the shoveling. He's got a very physical job and it's nothing for him. I suppose I SHOULD do it, be good exercise! But, I don't. This morning driving to work, though I skidded on some ice on the offramp and ended up backwards. Good thing I really know my car. Not a scratch, I wasn't even breathing hard. Just turned it around and proceeded on my merry way. I'll say one thing for Minnesota: It teaches you how to drive. I remember when I lived in England for a year how mild the winters were. I walked around in a sweater and no coat for most of it and my friends thought I was insane. They just don't realize how very cold a midwestern winter gets. It's an icy cold that bites right through you. English cold is damp and easily stopped by a good thick wool sweater. I bought one there and once I moved back here I couldn't wear it! It was too hot indoors due to central heating (which England doesn't seem to have in great plenty) and too cold outside because wool doesn't stop Minnesota cold and it didn't fit under a jacket. I loved that English winter! I wouldn't mind living there at all. I'm sure it gets colder than what I experienced but it was so very nice after a lifetime in Wisconsin. And I adore English rain and fog. Call me weird. Even a drenching rain is warmer than most rain we get here, and I just love fog. So atmospheric and lovely. Nothing better than coming upon a ruined castle in the mist.
I love English weather. I'm sure I'm adopted. It just depresses the rest of my family! The central heating in my house is always on, BTW. And my room is right next the boiler - and I put my bed against the radiator. Lovely jubbily on a winter night! SBW, I didn't know you moved to England for a year! Where did yoiu go? Why where you here? Why didn't you visit me or Mirelly? I want answers, dammit!
I'm so jealous! I believe I know that street, and I've always wondered what it would be like to live there...I'm farther south, closer to Minnehaha Falls, also a nice neighborhood, close to the Mississippi River, but the houses were all built in the 50s and 60s - very little character or style! Yes - I can remember visiting my Brother (a 30-year resident of England), when he took me down to the Pub one evening, and was trying to explain a Minnesota Winter to the locals...One of them asked how cold it got, and I answered that we'd reached 20 to 30 degrees below zero a few times, to which my brother added, "That's Farenheit, NOT Celsius!" They looked at me like I was from another planet! One of his friends then added, "That's bloody impossible...NO ONE could live in that?" Well - THAT'S why we have central heating!:shocked:
LOL, Sacha. You can come visit sometime if you'd like. It is a lovely street and we have a nice, if usually messy, townhouse. Babe, I lived in England before you were born, I think! So looking you up might have been a bit tricky. I was there for college, in 1986-87. I wish I could go back. My husband's not that interested in visiting, but I could happily live there, though I'd miss my family. As for Mirelly, well, I was just a punk college kid. What would she do with me? Make me do chores? Wish I had known her, but no such luck.
Can't be messier than my place - If only we could hire a maid as easily as our Sims, where the most we'd have to worry about is the 10 Simoleons a day and tha occasional pilfering from our Money Trees! At any rate, those of us in the Twin City area should get together sometime and talk Sims and Life over a cup of coffee...And maybe plan a dream trip to England! (There do seem to be a lot of Anglophiles on this forum - myself included!)
Oooh...I'd be up for that, the coffee and the trip to England! How sad is it that we'd meet irl because of the Sims2 game. Lol, although I bet SBW has a lot of stories to tell about her daughter that would be fun listening too. I only have cat stories about my three as we don't have children yet. But they are entertaining! And I also just love making new friends!

I think so! I adore my niece and talk about her almost as much as my daughter. She's two and a half and already smart as a whip. I also have a fabulous dog. She's really the bee's knees. My cat is old and annoying but I love her anyway. OK, I guess should meet, then! Sacha, where do you live? I know Shana's in Roseville. I live in Seward, near downtown Mpls. I prefer coffee shops that are not nationally owned but can deal with Starbuck's if need be. And hey! Someone to talk to about Sims without having their eyes glaze over. Oops! Reread this thread. You're near Minnehaha? We could meet at the coffee shop at the end of my street, if y'all wanted to see it. It is truly lovely, especially in spring, or after a snow. Speaking of snow, we're due for more tonight, during rush hour. Go home early if you can. And the rest of you, sorry for making this our personal scheduling thread.
