So, who gets the business? I've had three sims die and leave their businesses to strange choices. The 1st sim, Kaleb Simpson, left his home business to his teenaged daughter, Felicity. He had a grown son, Kieran, living the lot, and they had a very close relationship. The second sim, Edward Dawson, wound up leaving his cemetary to his sister in law, Nikki. Yes, they live together. But Eddie's brother and daughter also lived on the lot, and they had a much closer relationship! The third sim was the most frustrating. I wanted Hannah to inherit her mother Cara's flower shop. Hannah had grown up helping her mother in the shop, and was better at flower arranging and working the cash register! When the mother was getting ready to die, I brought Hannah to the house, took all the stuff out of Cara's inventory, and moved it to Hannah's. Cara wound up leaving her flower shop to the other daughter, Haleigh, who doesn't live with her and does not have a close relationship!!! So, what's the trick? How do I get the correct sims to inherit the family business?
Every now and then I've noticed an option on the sim who owns the business where he can transfer it to someone else. Unfortunately, I can't exactly remember where I've seen this option, but I suspect that if you want a particular sim to inherit then you might have to use it before the owner dies. Or, now that the wrong sim has got it you can have that one pass ownership over to the sim who ought to have it. Or, I could be completely nuts and have misunderstood what I was looking at altogether.
The game must've put in an option for you to transfer it to someone of your choice...it would be a terrible lapse in forethought.
You need to click on the sim you want to give the business to, and choose Propose/Transfer business. That should do it, and yes, the "transferer" must be living for that to happen.
