    Starting Over

I have tried everything I could think of to fix my missing icon bug with no avail. I installed the game onto my work laptop to see if it was a bad file on the disk: Nope. I kept my saved games and uninstalled and reinstalled: nope. I took out the download folder: nope.

This morning, I did the one thing I was dreading more than everything. I cleaned everything out. A new, fresh install. I did keep my downloads and my saved sims folders.

So now they are all gone. All my sims that I have raised from babies are gone. I feel like I put pets to sleep. :(

Because I kept my saved sims folder, they are all there in Body Shop. So I can start over with my favorites. I will probably use Body Shop to make some co-eds for Studmiester Napoleon to chase. I wonder if he'll be as fertile this time. LOL. I'm really grating on Hubby's nerves because I'm obsessed today, I want to try and get 6 months of gameplay back in one day. And he might want to spend some time with me or go out on a Saturday.

People who download mods and hacks and don't know what they are doing, learn from my mistake!! All this started when I tried to remove all my hacks for Uni. It's my fault, my ignorance. I'm not blaming the hacks, I'm blaming me.

From now on I will be more careful about downloading things. They can clash with other downloads, and when you try to remove them, bad things happen!

On the positive, my new graphic card makes the game look so much more beautiful than I've ever seen it. It's running better and I can invite more people over!! Yay!! I can't wait to see the Cinematics. :)

Poor Kristal :(. I was worried that I'd have to do a similar thing for my buggered community lot thingy, but I sent a Sim downtown last night and it seems to have sorted itself out! The only thing I can think of that was different to the other times I've tried was having testing cheats enabled (I was trying to see if I could use it to sort out her moods once I was in the community lot). But anyway, wooo! But still poor you. I'm glad you had your Sims saved in BodyShop.

I'm not sure what "missing icon" bug you refer to, but Inge Jones has said that information regarding an "urgently needed" patch which could potentially address a "missing thumbnail" issue was in the works. Of course, this is probably all rumors and propaganda, but hey.

Oh, so now that I start all over, do away with all the hard work building families I've done for six months, they deicde there's a bug and they are going to patch it!!! After I whined around for a week, and visited 3 message boards, and this wasn't a very common thing, and I was sure it was my comptuer and my courpt files, they decide there really is a bug!?    (Josh, we need a new emoticon. We need the one with the head banging on the wall or the computer or something!)

Oh, Kristal, you didn't even save your neighborhood files (just in case, off to the side)? Oh, dear. I think that that would make me have a long cry.

Somewhere this morning I read that there was already a fix for it. I believe that it's on MTS2. (It was one of the SimMasters who had the problem, but I can't find her post now to remember where exactly the fix was.)

Well, I tried to keep the neighborhood files at 1st and just take out the downloads file, but that didn't work. I didn't know what else to do. Like I said, I thought this whole time it was a bad hack that I couldn't find with the Clean Installer. The game wipes them out if you tell it not to save the game files.

It's okay. I needed to clean start. It was getting so that the whole neighborhood was related. LMAO. Plus, now I can start from scratch with my own neighborhood I made with SC4, so I don't have to hear Hubby complain about what a waste of money that was since I quit playing it.

I am so sorry you lost all your stuff Kristal, but I think you saved me a lot of my own time and effort by posting your own troubles here. Because of you, I moved out all my downloads and copied all my main game files to other places just in case before installing my copy TS2U that just came today. I've only been playing for a couple of hours, but I'm cautiously optimistic that maybe disaster might have been averted thanks to you.

I know that doesn't help your situation, but maybe it helps a little to know you helped at least one other person out. I would've been pretty torqued because my game moves at such a crawl that I'm only into my second generation with the first grandchildren starting to appear now.

I sent the first teen off to college, and so far, Graciela has encountered no troubles beyond the usual bleeding wants bars.

That's good aharris. :) I'm glad I could help someone. That's why I've been posting all my trials, so no one else would make the same stupid mistakes I did. :)

Sometimes it's very refreshing to start over. And then any early "mistakes" you made, you are more likely to be able to avoid. (I hated leaving my first neighborhood, but it just wasn't set up the way I wanted it. Now I'm really glad I did. I have my "good" neighborhood waiting for me once I've gotten all the "kinks" worked out by going back to my old neighborhood to try out TS2U.)

Do you mean that he was complaining about SC4 being a waste of time, since you quit playing it. (But even though I'm not playing it right now, I did play some a bit before TS2U came out, and it certainly makes a good "tool" for making things for TS2/TS2U!)
