EDIT: OLD THREAD CAN BE FOUND HERE! I just noticed something regarding weather. for those who havent downloaded any hacked objects from mts2.com, there are "unlocked" weather related itesme such as buyable rain, buyable lightning, and a sort of "wishing machine" for rain, thunderstorms, etc.. when they are used i have NEVER seen rain end up inside a house nor have i seen lightning penetrate a roof into a house. only outside are they visible. is it possible that maxis had this problem figured out in the end but had an alterior motive for not putting it in? post your speculations and conspiracy theory's here (JM's going to chime in with a large and obnoxious post. i just know it ).
Actually, I don't see how they could've failed to prevent it from raining indoors. What they COULD'VE done is code walls and ceileings to assign collision maps to those areas (similar to vehicle mapping for First Person Shooters), although now that we're Expansion Packs in, that would probably require a lot of recoding and maybe they've just hard coded too much which would require a few months to work out.
I downloaded something that gave me rain, but it DID rain indoors . I used it for a film I'm working on (forever and ever). I posted a thread somewhere around here called Thunder and Rain--in the TS2 Movie Theater and Studios forum--back in May. The film clip is on my website (noted below). It's the chapter called The Murder. The downloaded folder also had lightening, kind of cool looking, and a couple of other useless things in it, like homework and bills, if I remember. The problem was, you had to be careful not to save the game. Good for making movies, not much else.
Well, cool as that object was, it rendered my game virtually unplayable. I'll admit though, if there was some way they could get the thing to work faster... I'd be sold on it. I loved the weather! One thing I will say: It wasn't raining inside my house!
Was your house built up on a foundation? I think it rains on the ground under the foundation. My building did not have a foundation. I had to be careful with the camera angle, so you couldn't see the rain on the floor inside when Duke opened the door . Yeah, I read it was a risky thing. I was careful not to save the game after filming the scene.
Sorry about taking so long to reply; I guess I hadn't subscribed to this thread... Anyway, yes, the house was on a foundation. I always build the house on a foundation
