    The Blue Screen of Death...again...

Yes, I have attempted to play The Sims 2 + all expansions on my laptop, and yes, it does work. Even with the video card fatal errors...

Anyway! :D Now it appears that I have had my first BSoD on my laptop and it was when I was playing Sims. I click C to have Francisco paint himself a self-portrait, and BOOM my computer gives me the lovely blue screen.

I wrote down what I could:

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

    0XE168E000
    0X00000001
    0XBFA0B63F
    0X00000001

ialmdev6.DLL address BFA0B63F base at BFA05000 datestamp [bunch of zeros]

I will post the laptop's specs, I have updated the video drivers and the BIOS recently.

LOL Cheezy ... I think the moral to this is don't try any more self portraits. ;)

There's no obvious explanation other than the fact that the display card is probably tripping over its drivers and landing a big heap of one and zeros under the ventilation slots ... don't shake the laptop if this happens or some of those li'l 1s and 0s might fall out and they can be a devil to put back in :p

When a sim paints any kind of portrait the game takes a picture. So the big question is this. Do you get a BSoD just taking a snapshot (press C in game) ... if not try taking several ...

If this doesn't crash the puter then it'll be the game's image processing guff that is doing the tripping over ... but let's not forget that the game is software and that is using your hardware and the installed operating system and drivers ... so we're back with that dodgy display adapter again ...

Ah I haven't taken very many pictures on the laptop since I wasn't doing a story with it. I'll try that out and see. This is the first BSoD I've had on the thing so I was really concerned. Thanks :)

And what surprised me the most was that I had done the "Paint Still Life" with people before---Francisco's parents. However, I had not done it where the painter painted a still life of himself. I guess the game didn't like it if all else fails. :p

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA usually references to a memory corruption during the game process; something that usually is addressed during QA so it surprises me you got it.

You can read more here: http://www.osronline.com/article.cfm?id=335

I'd also suggest you setting your laptop aside (battery out) and running on AC for the night while you perform a quick memtest to see if the Memory is Failing you.

I tried out the game today before I ran the memtest and so far it hasn't made the laptop do the BSoD again...so I'm not sure what it was...I guess it was my laptop saying not to paint still-lifes of yourself.

    Days later...

Alrighty then. When taking a normal picture of Rosemarie Cormier as an elder in a Criminal Mastermind outfit, it gives me the exact BSoD as before. I guess the laptop doesn't like old women in sexy outfits either. Looks like I'll be running that memtest thing too, whichever one I'm supposed to use...
