The Blue Screen of Death? For the past several weeks I've been experiencing the good ol' BSD every time I try to play The Sims 2 Nightlife... It usually happens when I load the game up, somewhere in b/t the main loading screen and loading up a family to play. I've sent error reports and the reply says that there has been an error in a driver. I have reinstalled every type of driver I can think of, ranging from the video drivers to the sound drivers to the keyboard drivers... I'll post my system stats if necessary, they are good enough to play the game for about a year now, so... At the moment I am reinstalling the game and its expansions to see if that will solve anything. I may have to do this with the other games that have this problem occurring as well. Any thoughts?
If this is occurring with more than just TS2, then you may have a more serious problem. The most common cause of this type of thing that I've heard of (BSD or reboot) is having a virus in your system. One of the bad ones. It's a very good idea, especially since it sounds like your problem is not limited to TS2, to do a thorough checking of your system for major problems.
Definately follow KatAnubis' advice. It might also be a good idea to check for heat issues. Newer games like NL really strain your video card and processor, and after a year or two without cracking the case your computer can get quite a buildup of dust.
Good point, WereBear! Shoot, all it takes is a bit of overheating of your CPU and it will lose it's ability to process (until cooled.) I've been shopping for a new mobo and processor, so I've been doing a lot of reading about processors. One of the things that they mention is that heat significantly drops ability on CPUs. It's one of the reasons why they have not been able to make a 4+ ghz processor. (You can get the CPU to go higher, but only if you can literally keep it frozen. Even water cooled isn't enough to keep it cool enough.) So, if you have a CPU which has been working fine, but then your system starts acting oddly, check to make sure that your fans are working properly, your system box is free of dust and that the CPU heat sink isn't damaged. (But also check for viruses, as I said before.)
