This Morning's Electrical Issue This morning, a little before 8AM there had been a lightning strike, though we have not yet gotten confirmation as to where the strike occurred, that caused a very large surge and/or extreme unexpected noise that caused an overload on UPS unit A in chi02. UPS B was unaffected and load from UPS properly transfered over to UPS B as designed, but due to the suddenness of the change there was a very brief outage, less than a second, on power feed A. Not all equipment would have been affected by this outage. Only equipment connected to only power feed A in chi02 would have been affected and any dual corded equipment, using both power feeds A and B, equipment just on feed B, or equipment in chi01 would have been unaffected. Also, due to the extremely brief nature of the outage, even equipment solely on feed A may have survived the issue without resetting/rebooting depending on it's exact specifications. I would also like to thank the on-site engineers and contractors as UPS A has already been repaired and we are once again running with a redundant pair of UPS systems. Everything should now be operating normally, but if you're still experiencing issues feel free to contact our support staff and we'll be more than happy to assist you. Note: Based on initial review and analysis there was no network outage during this issue, as it seems all systems failed over properly. More...
