Un problema I just recently installed Sims 2 Nightlife on top of my Sims 2 Uni. (yes with all the hacks and downloads i had installed...whoops...and I'm too impatient to "prep" my Sims for teh newness...good thing I backed my files up). When I try to go to one of my rental properties at University, it loads...and loads...and loads...by the time it plays 4 songs I've had enough of waiting and have to shut the computer down. How do I solve this? I've removed/disabled some custom content, removed the hacks I had, and am trying to free up space (defragging atm, one Nightlife file had 1200 fragments already!). Any ideas?
It's possible that particular lot is corrupt. I had a problem with that on my first installation with Uni. The student union was corrupt on mine. It would either crash or never open. I reinstalled the whole game again because it was a major building. Since I hadn't played any this wasn't a big deal...just a waste of my time. If other buildings work well and this is a minor rental lot...I'd bulldoze it. I suppose it's possible Nightlife has a "fix" for some problem that's affecting your lot. I bulldoze or lotbin a lot of University buildings. I've found over time which buildings I use. Those I don't are eliminated. Many are just ugly or poorly designed. I rearrange the buildings so they aren't spread out. I find my game loads much faster.
I have a university that seems to be cursed. I get a lot of lots that crash. I've found the only solution is to move my students out and bulldoze the lot. I haven't tried looking at it from a design angle, and I haven't done any custom design, except to expand a couple of rental properties when they got too small.
I had this happen the first time I tried to run a big dorm on Uni after I got NL. It took about 15 minutes to load the lot, but it finally did load, and had no other problems since then.
When I get a new ep, I spend the first few days streamlining it. With the addition of Nightlife, you now have neighborhood, community, campus, and downtown areas to switch to. For those with computers barely meeting the game specs, I'd certainly make it a point to lotbin the huge dorms. I only send one or two to University at a time now. The huge dorms just fill up with useless townies. I don't need multiple lots with bars or shopping areas. I seldom use one of either. I strip all the buildings of useless statues, plants, furniture, etc. I even strip, modify and lotbin most of the rental homes. I seldom have more than two occupied at any given time. Asking some computers to save a bunch of unused lots and buildings is a waste of resources besides taking ages to load it all.
