Why can't she scope the room?

Why can't she scope the room?

I have an adult sim that I can't get the option to scope out the room, or whatever it's called. She wants to find love because she's a family sim. Her sister just got married and her brother has a love interest but I can't find anyone she likes. I took her and her brother downtown and he was able to scope the room but when I clicked on her the option wasn't there. She could freestyle and meditate but that's it. Is she just defective?

She won't have that option until she has done at least one low-level flirt with a sim of the gender she prefers. If she you want to her find a man have her choose any man and select the flirt, check sim out, option. Then her gender preference is set and she should be able to scope the room.

OH Thanks Shana! I hadn't even realized that she's never flirted before. I finally gave up though and used the Gypsie to find her a date. Interestingly enough the date went kinda bad but they became friends not long after it ended. He's an old man and she's a youngish adult, in other words she's just like 3 or 4 days into adulthood not like a young adult.

Not a problem, glad I could help! I remembered reading that in the official guide. I think I generally set my sim's preference with the first person who walks by their lot that fits my gender preference. Hmm...that gives me an idea. I should make a neighborhood where the gender preference is set by the very first sim who walks onto the lot, that would be kind of interesting to see how many same sex couples vs opposite couples I'd end up with....don't you hate it when you get an idea at work and you can't act on it!

I didn't know you could influence gender preference. I try to have my sims flirt with the same sex sometimes and they get slapped. :p Maybe they're not trying hard enough?

You also can't scope room if there's no one in it, which isn't always easy to tell if you're playing in walls down mode. There can be other people in the joint, but if they're in a different room you can't scope them. Makes sense!

They just have to do an interaction under the Flirt options, which means they only have to "Check Sim Out" to set gender preference. This decreases the chances of being rejected and starting off on the wrong foot.

I did it! I have my first gay teen. I'm so proud. :D

I like some diversity in my sims, as I do in my friends. Life is so much more interesting that way.

You mean in Nightlife your sims can't be bisexual? I've been having a lot of fun with a family of mine where the mom and dad are both having an affair with Joe Carr...

Oh sims can pedal their bicycles up and down both sides of the street  It is a fact that they'll do whatever we cruel and heartless 'god' and 'godesses' tell them to do

The official guide for the original game says that it depends on the gender the Sim flirts with most as to their preference. I'd say they might be able to be bisexual, if they flirted equally with both sexes.:devious: I didn't realise you could set the preference with their first flirt, though. Heh, I learn something new every time I come here!:D

Au contraire. If you have a gender preference set, and then flirt with a sim of the other gender, the sim's gender pref will change. If you want a sim to be bisexual, it's likely they'll have to like girls one day and boys another day, and so on and so one.

But once your sim is in love with a sim, they won't fall out of love just because you change their preference. It is possible to have a sim in love with sims of both genders at the same time. I've done it with Nina Caliente, and with Strangetown Bella. Bisexuals in real life usually at least slightly prefer one sex over the other anyway.

I wish some sims could actually be asexual. I understand WHY Maxis didn't allow that, but still, I'd like it. It would be more realistic for me.
Besides, I love the cute little shrug when you try to make sims with no gender preference scope the room :p
