Well this brings up the question, for me at least, how do you save your old neighborhoods and transfer them when you reinstall. I ask because I may be getting a new computer over holidays and I want to try and move a couple of my custom hoods to the new computer. I've read how before but I wasn't thinking of getting a new computer at the time so I didn't really pay attention to what I read.

    Hi Ruth

You probably already know that your saved games are in:
    My Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\

The folders you need to save are:

    • Downloads
    • Movies (unless there's nothing there or nothing you want)
    • Storytelling (check it to see if there's anything saved there that you might wanna keep ... the main storytelling pics are kept in the neighborhoods folders
    • And finally ... neighborhoods:-
      • The folder is probably too big to fit onto a single CD - it would probably fit on a DVD data disc if you didn't have too many custom 'hoods but you shoudl be able save the separate hoods on individual CDs

Of course if you have a network card in your old PC you can just buy a cheap network patch cable and join the two PC's together and download all you want to keep from the old one to new one (all new PC's seem to come with a networking socket on the back ;) )

OH Hey thanks!! I never even thought about networking! Thanks for the tip and for the info on what I'll need to move.

Good news, sports fans! Porta de Luca is up and running.

Unfortunately, it's an older backup so I need to catch up to the story before I can write again. So Porta de Luca will go on a (hopefully brief) hiatus.

But no one's missing! Yeah! OK, baby Carlo may look a little different and there's no vampire mansion ... But otherwise I've got everyone. Whew.

Here's what I'm convinced caused all my problems: that stupid Xmas pack. My game was fine until I installed it, and the old backup was the one I made before installing it.

I highly recommend that all of you do the same. If I'm right, it completely destroyed my game.

The random loss of want slots, locks, and what not appears to be a random Uni thing.

You can restore the missing slots and locks using the Jeffian College Adjustor.

    Now you tell me.

Good to know these things. Next time I won't panic.

I never download lots. Way too dangerous, with all the hacks people out there have running. Lord knows, my Sims 2 doesnt need any more help crashing (well, at least with my computer, sigh).

I have never had this happen with a townie graduate. I don't have any idea what could cause it.

I did think it was strange that it only affected the townies. But then all of the little kids suddenly had LTWs, and I decided, enough already.

I'm beginning to agree about lots. I deleted them all from the game, with the exception of the one that had a family living in it. I plan to have them move out soon and build their own house.

It's kind of a drag, having to catch everyone up, but I think it will go fairly quickly. I may have to cheat to get babies of the same genders, since that's the way I think of them now. Too disconcerting to have baby Carlo suddenly be baby Carla.

I know I might be able to fix my old game, but I think at this point I should just go with the clean install. I won't miss the Xmas pack that much, since now I know Santa has that prostate problem ... :p

OK, so I've thought about it and would like to give the Jeffian College Adjuster a try. It could potentially save me hours of rework.

Only one problem: I can't find it. I have searched MATY and Google, to no avail.

    So, I give up.

    Where's it hiding?

Surprisingly enough, it's in Jeffy's section, "Not A Good Commando Name", under his newly updated things, "New Crap", helpfully entitled, "College Adjuster Plus". It also happens to be the first message on the section at the moment. It boggles the mind how you managed to miss it. Get your glasses checked.

Does it help to mention I've had no sleep in two days?

Strangely enough, I broke my glasses and am wearing my sunglasses until my new ones are ready.

And, thanks for not telling me to get a new brain. Amazingly kind of you.

So, I examined all possible hacks and fixes and decided that my original game is just too buggy. I decided to do things the old fashioned way to avoid problems in the future.

I'm still trying to set things back the way they were, but I have a real life too that keeps intruding. Imagine that.

Getting there, though. One more night of uninterrupted play and I'll be back to normal.

In the meantime I decided to go ahead and post to my story thread.

Just in case y'all thought I'd forgotten you. ;)
