LOL, Sacharissa. Nothing says "I'm just a normal Joe" like your own porta-bedpan!

At least he'd be easy to spot.

Oh, it's nothing, it's hard to explain to people why it's a lot of fun to work in places like Alzheimer's secure nursing units, but it is. (And my mother-in-law died of Alzheimer's, no joke, but you gotta laugh sometimes. The disease makes the brain into Swiss cheese and you never know what might disappear.) I model my Asylum patients on people I have really known. Ninja costume, chef's hats, and all...this includes the unrelenting hostility without reason, the sudden irrational infatuations, the inability to eat though there is food sitting on the table, the constant switching of day and night sleep schedules, and especially the tendency to pee one's pants in spite of the toilet being nearby.

Sim World - Real World? Who can tell?

The situation at the Symptom Complex has deteriorated. Several times I've ended up exiting without saving, and repeated several sim-days of play. The first time, there were 5 fires in one day!! Every time since then, I haven't had the fires but my controllable sim is just crashing into aspiration failure (family). He's on his way to lifetime want, but he doesn't really care about that - he just wants to fall in love, get married, have kids. Can't do it - his every effort to make friends and flirt and even just chat seem doomed, I think because he's in such a funk. It's a downward cycle.

And of course all the other inmates are completely batty now, so he's always witnessing fights and stressing over dirty dishes and so on.

So - if you've succeeded at this challenge, what's your secret? Does it depend on the aspiration? I could do it with a knowledge sim, I think, but with any other? Or should I have worked heavily on friendships and charisma first and worried about his LTW (Captain Hero) later?

    1. I had a knowledge Sim with a LTW of Criminal Mastermind. Unfortunately she achieved this when she was old. :(

    2. She was a Scorpio and really grouchy.

    3. She gained her social from fighting. o_0

    4. She treated herself to a blind date with a college Sim, and talked with him on the phone to keep her social up.

    5. She didn't do too well making friends with the other patients, except for maybe two patients. Otherwise she'd poke or beat up on four of them and ignored the other two.

    6. She didn't have to worry about dirty dishes because one of the patients burned down the kitchen and they relied on chinese food and pizza for the rest of the time.

    7. My Sim worked on skillpoints early on anyway, since she kept rolling wants to gain skill points.

    8. Did I mention this was all random? o_0

Has anyone "won" the Asylum challenge with an aspiration other than Knowledge? I finally got Multiple Symptoms' needs into the green but ignoring everything but comfort and social. But his favorite roommate just died. Dang.

When I finished the challenge I got 268. Dunno whether that's good or bad, and I probably miscalculated anyway. I forgot what my sim's aspiration was...but, luckily enough, her LTW was to become Hall of Famer. I finished it right before everyone turned into an elder. Lucky, lucky, lucky.

since I haven't played the challenge can you improve his mood by giving him flamingos to kick?

I'm not sure if it's okay to have gnomes or flamingos, since "entertainment" is forbidden (computer games, car, pinball are all expressly forbidden but garden implements are not mentioned). I do have them - sheer survival - and I can bring his fun up, but his aspiration is so deep in the red (family - no idea how to keep that from happening if you can't date or get married or have kids) - and it's hard to keep the rest of his needs met with one shower and one toilet and a job and lousy beds and no chair available... this is the challenge, of course! You "win" by achieving LTW, which is impossible if your sim goes to work in a bad mood all the time.

Anyway, I've started over with the Big Pharma Asylum, filled with the SideEffects gang. I cheated a little, to give my sim, Adverse SideEffects, a knowledge aspiration. No other cheats. I'm going to focus as much as possible on getting to LTW soonest.

I can imagine doing it with a fortune want, or maybe popularity, but family, pleasure and romance seem really tricky.

    WISH ME LUCK!

Family isn't one of the aspirations you can roll for, for your controllable sim. The creator of the challenge knew how hard it would be to fulfill most of their LTWs (6 Grandchildren? No way.). And now I remember that my sim was fortune. Lucky, lucky me.

You can have items like the TV or Dance Sphere for fun, and they also provide Cooking and Body skill.

I hate fortune sims. My sim was originally a fortune sim but I changed her to romance because I was so bored and then stopped playing the challenge altogether.

I may go back and try again someday. Her LTW is 20 woohoo. I think I can manage that, if she's not too fussy. ;)

I have a Sim that rolled that LTW as well, and was in despair...I mean, doesn't your Sim have to chat the potential "woo-hoo-ee" up a lot before they will accept the woo-hoo suggestion? I mean, don't they have to be friends, then best friends, then in love before they will proceed? She'll be an elder by the time she's run up the relationship score on that many people! Or is that just my naivet showing?

Nope. It's tricky. The most sims I've had one sim woohoo so far was 13. She didn't go to college, started as an adult, but she used a lot of the green stuff. And, she wasn't very picky, either, LOL. I believe Brandon the kilt guy was on her list.

I had to start over before she could reach 20. She was in my first neighborhood, and was actually my first sim, so I remember her fondly. She looked really hot in those stark black glasses that come with the game. Go figure.

I'm trying a variation of the assylum.... giving one of the NPC crazies twin babies...

Just to see how it all works out.
